Podiatrists are experts in foot, ankle, and lower limb conditions. They are dedicated to improving their patients’ health and knowledge surrounding their lower limb health, and can help to diagnose and treat a wide variety of conditions of all levels of severity.

General foot care, rehabilitation for biomechanical and sports injuries, orthotic therapy, permanent ingrown toenail surgery, paediatric management, diabetes assessment and prevention, and a host of other care management services can all be conducted at the clinic. These services may benefit people who suffer from vascular conditions, arthritis, lower limb disorders and deformities, and elderly patients (especially those with a history of falls).

Our podiatry services are conducted by Laura Chan, who has a keen interest in all facets of podiatry and is dedicated to providing evidence-based treatments for all of her patients. Her unique realm of experience allows her to provide patients of all ages and backgrounds with leading care which helps them to improve their lower limb (and overall) health.

FEE INFORMATION

Medicare will refund $56.00 for up to 5 sessions per calendar year under the Enhanced Primary Care program (EPC). This is available to people with complex and long-standing health conditions and MUST be referred by your GP under an Enhanced Primary Care Plan. Please discuss with your GP if you think you may be eligible for this.

Podiatrist are primary health care providers. This means a referral from your doctor is not always necessary if claiming personally or with your private health extra cover. All podiatry services provided at Camden South Family Doctors are covered under private health insurance. A small gap fee may apply depending on your health insurance company. Please contact them directly to enquire about your podiatry rebate.

      • Initial Consolation – 30min $76 or with an EPC the gap is $20
      • Follow-up Consolation – 20min $66 or with an EPC the gap is $10
      • Dry Needling for lower leg and feet – $96
      • DVA gold are Bulk Billed, Orange and White also Bulk Billed if occupied with a GP referral and have DVA approval.
      • Uncanceled | No shows –  “Cancellation Fee” for the 2nd occurrence of $35 applies

We have direct processing for most private health insurers using a HICAPS terminal. We are able to swipe your card on the day of your visit and your health fund will pay the podiatry rebate to us directly. Please bring your Health Insurance Card with you to use this facility.

What is a podiatrist?

Podiatrists are experts in foot, ankle and lower limb health. They can help to prevent, diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions including:

  • Ingrown toenails
  • Heel and arch pain
  • Skin problems
  • Balance issues
  • Sprains

According to the Australasian Podiatry Council (www.apodc.com.au), ‘ a podiatrist works to improve mobility and enhance the independence of individuals by the prevention and management of pathological foot problems and associated morbidity. Podiatrists treat a range of conditions including but not limited to dermatological and nail conditions such as corns/calluses and ingrown toenails as well as managing and treating bone and joint arthropathies and muscular issues.

This can be achieved by providing advice on foot health, assessment and diagnosis of foot pathology, identification of treatment options. For example: Podiatrists are qualified to assess and treat walking pattern anomalies (GAIT), foot, knee and postural complications in adults and children. Podiatrists can refer for diagnostic services such as x-rays and ultrasound.

They can also treat foot problems that arise from underlying medical conditions such as diabetes and arthritis.

Your podiatrist’s recommendations might include specific exercises, the use of custom-made inserts for your shoes, or medications to treat skin conditions.

Do I need a referral to see you?

No, not necessarily. Although our podiatrist works in a GP clinic, patients are able to claim on the spot through the HICAPS system from their private health insurance. As we are a GP clinic, we are able to claim Medicare rebates for you. Currently Medicare provides rebates for allied health consultations for patients who are diagnosed with a chronic and/or complex condition such as diabetes, chronic arthritis peripheral vascular disease even cataracts. An Enhanced Primary Care Plan allows the patient up to 5 sessions per calendar year this management plan is to be discussed with your general practitioners under a Chronic Disease Management Plan.
